U.S. Veteran

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 14, 2024 Earl Glenn McGlone Jr. peacefully returned to our Heavenly Father, surrounded by his beloved family.

Earl, born on March 19, 1951, in Salt Lake City, UT, was the second child of Earl Glenn McGlone and Helen Jewel Davis McGlone. Raised in Millcreek, he attended Granite High School, graduating in 1969. Following his graduation, Earl volunteered for the Army Reserves, where he honed his skills as an expert rifleman and excellent cook.

After his military service, Earl married Polly Suzanne Peterson on June 10, 1971, and together they welcomed five children. His first marriage ended in divorce. Earl found the love of his life Kathy Illene Olsen, whom he married on June 14, 1995, and was later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 14, 1998. They established their new life together in Bluffdale, UT and after 24 years moved to South Jordan.

Throughout his life, Earl was known for his strong work ethic. From a young age, he assisted his father in the family business of repairing typewriters. He later excelled as a diesel mechanic, lending his skills to aid numerous family members. He ventured into construction working for BJ Rees’s Enterprise, contributing to road-building projects across the Western United States. Earl's professional journey led him to truck driving, where he eventually became an owner-operator of a side dump trucking business. Later, he spent the remainder of his professional life driving for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Earl found joy in a variety of hobbies and interests.  He was an avid shopper and collector of sunglasses.  He was a fantastic cook, hunter, and loved his mules. Two of his favorite hobbies collided and served his family well whenever we went camping and he was on ‘dinner duty’.  Whenever a gun show was in town, Earl was sure to attend.  He had a talent for leather working and love for muscle and antique cars.  But above all, he was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served faithfully in numerous callings, including assistant ward clerk, welcome committee member, and family history representative.

Earl is survived by his loving wife, Kathy, his sisters Helen (Erling) Holje and Jackie (Mike) VanLeeuwen, his sisters-in-law Jackie (Ralph) Olsen, Alana (Robert) Whitaker and Teresa (William) Whitaker, his children Brett (Julie) of West Jordan, Brandon (Shellie) of Vernal, Bryce (Missy) of Taylorsville, Brady (Orlean) of Springville, Aubrey (Attila) of Willow Creek, CA, Shantel (Nathan) Stanworth of Bluffdale, Jami (Jim) Hanes of Riverton, Justin (Kama) Roberts of Helena, MT, and BJ (Neisha) Roberts of Lehi, along with his 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, Blain and Jean Olsen, brothers-in-law, Ralph and Craig Olsen, sister-in-law JoEll Olsen, and Nephew Shevlin Whitaker.
